Sharon Pearson places the finishing touches on the property of the haunted house that is open this weekend. Three local families have banded together to offer local kids a free visit to a "friendly" haunted house on Saturday night.

Parents are invited to bring their young 'uns to 125 Meadow Road (Prospect Park, Rt. 155) between 6:00 and 8:00 tonight for a spooky experience and treats.

"Every year my friends and I have been saying that we should have a haunted house," said Sharon Pearson, one of the organizers. "This year, we did it!"

Pearson brainstormed with John and Pam Kautz, along with Jennifer and Cassie Pearsall, to decide how best to prepare their ghoulish garage.

They promise that local kids are in for a mildly spooky, fully entertaining and very safe experience. The house tour concludes with an exit into -- fittingly enough -- a cemetery. Each child will receive a treat bag.

Emporium's Halloween activities begin today with a parade and continue tonight between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. with the door-to-door trick-ortreaters.
