Coudersport takes volleyball lead

Coudersport has emerged atop the Northern Tier Volleyball League standings, coming off a thrilling win over a strong Oswayo Valley Thursday night.

It was a war of attrition, with the Falcons (4-0) coming back from the brink of defeat to win game four and send the match into a fifth-game decider.

Karli Duffee delivered 26 assists to go with nine service points and a pair of aces as Coudersport outlasted OV 25- 23, 26-28, 20-25, 25-20 and 15- 10. Returning league MVP Jessica Wilson was all over the floor, with 23 digs, nine kills, five blocks and 12 points. Melissa Gerner had 11 kills and 16 digs.

Coudersport was coming off a non-league win at Elkland the night before,25-6, 25-17, 25-17. Wilson had 11 kills, six blocks, 10 digs and three aces. Duffee provided 14 assists and six service points. Sabrina Hershey chipped in with nine digs and five kills. Megan Hau fired 15 points with three aces.

On Tuesday, Coudersport swept Cameron County, 25-6, 25-11, 25-24, as Jordan Bright delivered 16 points with five aces and had five kills. Wilson had 12 kills to go with six points and three aces. Gerner contributed 13 points, four kills and a pair of aces. Shelly Sharrow and Lacey Feldbauer led the Red Raiders.

Austin battled hard against Northern Potter, but fell in four games, 21-25, 23-25, 26-24, 17- 25. Whitney Crosby had 10 kills and eight assists for the Panthers. Emily Wambaugh added 19 points with four aces and five blocks. Rayna Valenti had 12 assists.
