Coudersport wins volleyball league

Coudersport captured the Northern Tier Volleyball League championship Thursday night with a win in four games at Otto-Eldred.

Playoffs are next for several Northern Tier teams, with the schedule to be announced.

Coach Greg Stone's Falcons found the match deadlocked 1- 1 when they kicked into gear and swept games three and four, 25-15 and 25-14.

Megan Hau exploded for 23 service points to go with eight kills and three blocks. Jessica Wilson fired 20 kills and had 29 digs. Karli Duffee dished out 31 assists to go with her seven digs. Melissa Gerner came through with 11 kills and 16 digs.

Also on Thursday, Smethport swept Cameron County in three, despite 12 digs by Alexis Ramsey. Austin lost in three to Oswayo Valley.

On Tuesday, Coudersport rebounded from a couple of rare losses with a dominating effort against visiting Northern Potter. Wilson had 12 kills, 19 digs and three blocks. Hau delivered five kills and 11 service points. Duffee contributed 19 assists.

Austin won two close games and then pounded Smethport 25-12 in the third. Whitney Crosby led the Panthers with 15 kills, 15 assists and seven points with two aces. Rayna Valenti had seven kills, 16 assists and 11 points with two aces. Emily Wambaugh pounded 10 kills to go along with six blocks and nine points. Kelsey Valenti contributed six kills and six points with two aces.

Cameron County fell 3-0 to Oswayo Valley. Lauren Cook had 11 assists and seven digs for the Raiders. Teammate Amanda Harris had six kills and Brandi Lyon had nine digs and four kills.

Coudersport 13-1, Oswayo Valley 12-2, Port Allegany 8- 6, Northern Potter 7-7, Otto- Eldred 7-7, Smethport 5-9, Austin 4-10, Cameron County 0-14.
