Kathryn A. ‘Katie’ Manning

Kathryn A. “Katie” Manning, 82, of Austin, died Feb. 7, 2010, in her home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness.

Born Nov. 25, 1927 in Austin, she was a daughter of Richard and Ruth VanWhy Lentz. On June 1, 1946 in Austin, she married Earl J. Manning, who died on Feb. 9, 1997.

She attended school in Austin and was employed by Emporium Specialties in Austin for many years as a machine operator.

Mrs. Manning was a lifelong member of Austin United Methodist Church and a long-time supporter of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Kristy E. Rees of Austin; two sons, Richard E. (Cindra) Manning of Rochester, N.Y., and Robert J. (Debra) Manning of Syracuse, N.Y.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Manning was predeceased by a grandson, a sister and five brothers.

Funeral services were held at Austin United Methodist Church with the Rev. John C. Baney officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Austin.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
