Girls basketball season closes next week

Paul Burdick photo Playoff pairings will be announced next week as teams in the Northern Tier Girls’ Basketball League head into the final stretch of the regular season.

Last Friday, Coudersport (13-5) bolted out to a 40-10 halftime lead on is way to a 70-33 win at Oswayo Valley. Hannah Fink (23), Tori Brown (11) and Taylor Green (11) led the scoring, but it was the Falcon defense that dominated the Green Wave.

Austin (10-8) played one of its best games of the season in dispatching visiting Otto-Eldred, 48-27. Emily Wambaugh had 14 rebounds, 10 points and seven steals. Katelyn Valenti scored 19 points with six steals and seven rebounds. Melissa Ritsick had 11 points and six assists.

Northern Potter pulled out a 36-33 win at Cameron County (7-11), in a finale that came down to foul-shooting in the fourth quarter. Brooke Dunsmore had 10 points and four steals, while Kelsey Caton grabbed eight rebounds and had four steals for the Red Raiders.

On Tuesday, Coudersport can nail down the league title with a home win against Port Allegany, while Austin has its home finale against Smethport, and Cameron County closes out its home schedule with Oswayo Valley.

Thursday’s games include Coudersport at Otto-Eldred, Cameron County at Smethport and Austin at Oswayo Valley.

League play draws to a close on Friday night when Cameron County travels to Coudersport for a make-up game.

League Standings: Coudersport 10-0, Port Allegany 9-2, Otto-Eldred 8-3, Cameron County 5-5, Austin 4-6, Northern Potter 4-6, Oswayo Valley 2-9, Smethport 0-11.
