David Lyon continuing baseball success

Cameron County’s David Lyon continues his baseball success as starting catcher for the Kent State (Ohio) University Golden Flashes.

Most recently he shared MAC East Division Player of the Week honors, due in part to a three-game stretch in which he batted a whopping .778 with seven hits, including two doubles and a homer. Lyon, a junior, is batting .317 on the season. He leads the team in RBI and triples and has gunned down nine of 14 attempted basestealers.

Entering the season, he was tabbed as a Johnny Bench Award “player to watch,” an honor reserved for the top NCAA Division I catchers in the country.

A 2008 graduate of Cameron County High School, David is the son of Dave and Connie Lyon of Emporium.

Last season, he started 53 of the Golden Flash’s 58 games, splitting time between catcher and designated hitter, and batted .272.

Lyon spent last summer playing for the Mat-Su Miners of the Alaska League and earned Second Team All- Alaska League honors.

He is a sports administration major at Kent State.
