Rotarian Nancy Grupp from Northwest Savings Bank introduced guest speaker Linda Galeone (right), a financial planner, as guest speaker for this week’s Coudersport Rotary meeting. Coping with market volatility in uncertain economic times was a topic of discussion at this week’s Coudersport Rotary meeting.

Linda Galeone, a financial planner from Northwest Financial Advisors in Wellsboro, outlined strategies for financial stability. She emphasized that investors should also consult with legal, tax and accounting advisors.

Given that financial markets may see wide swings, it is hard to decide how to invest or sell safely, Galeone said. She warned against emotional responses to wide swings, or trying to “time the market.”

Diversifying portfolios can help to reduce investment risk, but investments should be regularly reviewed and risks should be tempered by practical needs, such as mortgage payments or education expenses.

The age of the investor should also be taken into account, Galeone said.
