Another business closes in Coudersport

Two weeks after Coudersport’s bowling alley, Old Hickory Lanes, closed its doors, another business located directly across the street pulled out of town with little advance notice.

C. O. S. Wireless, located in the former Sears Building on North Main Street, was closed and its inventory removed last week.

Charles Kovacs, the Towanda-based operations manager for C. O .S, said the company would continue to service customers at its Wellsboro and Mansfield stores. C. O. S. sold and serviced Verizon cell phone equipment and processed Verizon payments.

Community leaders, already reeling from the most recent losses -- Gauld’s Corner Store and a brandname clothier in the former JCPenney building -- hold out hope for a business turnaround.

One positive development, the occupancy of the former Adelphia Operations Building on South Main Street, has not materialized as the prospective buyer continues to negotiate terms with the property’s owner, American Metro Bank of Chicago.
