Dramatic win for Austin boys

While the three contenders kept winning, it was Austin’s 77-74 victory over visiting Oswayo Valley that was the talk of the Northern Tier Boys’ Basketball League this week.

Senior Tye Dynda exploded for a career-high 32 points, while Wes Clark (13) and Kade Logue (12) backed him in the Panthers’ come-from-behind win.

Austin carried a 1-15 record into the game and savored the victory over a solid opponent.

“Tye had a career game and the entire team made the plays throughout the game,” said Austin coach Jesse Valenti.

Meanwhile, Coudersport survived a scare at Northern Potter to maintain its slender one-game lead in the league standings. Tim McCusker scored 19 points to lead the Falcons (13-5) to a 49-38 win. Northern Potter (6-12) held a 22-16 lead at the break.

Smethport did the Falcons a favor by edging visiting Port Allegany, 37-30.

Cameron County (10-9) rolled to a 64-34 win at Otto-Eldred behind Anthony Grimone’s 24 points.

Last week, Cameron County shot out to a 15-0 lead over visiting Northern Potter and coasted to a 59-43 win, avenging an earlier defeat. Andrew Sestina had 10 rebounds, 13 points and six blocks. Nathan Sestina added 13 points.

Coudersport exploded for 27 first-quarter points in a 68-30 win over visiting

Regular season finales on Wednesday are Coudersport at Port Allegany, Oswayo Valley at Cameron County, Austin at Otto-Eldred and Northern Potter at Smethport.
