Bova headed to state tournament

Etchepare, Burnside lose in consolation semifinals

Coudersport’s Kyle Bova (left) has earned a berth in this weekend’s PIAA State Wrestling Championship Tournament at Hershey.

Bova (32-3) posted a 4-0 win over Taylor Harrington of Fort LeBoeuf to earn third place among all 152-pounders at last week’s Northwest Regionals in Sharon.

The scrappy sophomore nearly qualified for the main event at Sharon, losing a tough 3-2 decision in the semifinal round. He proceeded to earn a 7-2 decision over Alex Shaffer of Mercer to progress into the match against Harrington, with a trip to Hershey hanging in the balance.

Bova has a 65-8 record in two years of varsity wrestling, from 125 pounds to 152.

Cameron County freshman Paul Etchepare progressed through the 113-pound bracket before he was defeated in the consolation semifinals.

Red Raider teammate Aaron Burnside (195) rebounded from an early loss to record a pin and a decision before he, too, was eliminated in the consolation semifinals.

Coudersport sophomore Forest Tuttle (182) was eliminated by injury default in the quarterfinals.
