Frank E. Ruter Jr

Frank E. Ruter Jr., 87, of Coudersport, died Friday, June 22, 2012, at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport.

Born Oct. 1, 1924 in Betula, he was the son of Frank E. Ruter Sr. and Viva M. (Stiles) Ruter. On Jan. 9, 1943 in Coudersport, he married Dee Gleason, who survives.

Mr. Ruter was a long-time resident of the Coudersport area and a well-known agriculturalist. He also had a game preserve. He owned and operated the first Polaris snowmobile dealership in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Ruter was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, was a charter member of the Potter County Snowmobile Club and, along with his wife, had been a board member of the Penn State Cooperative Extension. He was an avid bowler, hunter and snowmobiler.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Connie (Mrs. Dan) Wetzel of Coudersport, Sherri (Mrs. Ernie) Krensel of Valley Forge; Darlene (Mrs. Eddie) Gilbert of Ivyland; Stacy (Karen) Ruter of Coudersport, and Julie (Kevin) Kosa of Ulysses; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward (Madeline) Ruter of Addison, N.Y.; three sisters, Eva Robinson and Betty Spong, both of Coudersport, and Jane Kniffen of Corning, N.Y.; a sister-inlaw, Leona Ruter of Coudersport, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chester L. “Chet” Ruter.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Coudersport Alliance Church, with Pastor Sam Crossley officiating. Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fickinger Funeral Home of Coudersport.
