Another boost for CARP project

Coudersport Area Recreation Park (CARP) will be getting its second largest donation to date for restoration of the tennis and basketball courts. Northwest Savings Bank’s charitable trust will be presenting Borough Council with a $5,000 check in the near future.

“We are continuing to raise funds to complete the restoration and start working on other projects for the community,” said Borough Councilman Brian Wahlers, one of the driving forces behind the work.

Coudersport Borough Council members were unanimous in their support of the project, hoping that donations will continue to come in so the borough can cut down on the amount that will be absorbed by borough taxpayers.

Council agreed to borrow up to $40,000. A $40,000 federal grant and private donations are covering the remainder of the price tag, which is expected to end up in excess of $120,000.

The tennis and basketball courts had fallen into disrepair after 40 years of wear and tear. Handicapped accessibility and parking, as well as new equipment, are part of the project.

Bid for the construction portion was awarded to Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc.

Donations are being accepted at Northwest Savings Bank in Coudersport.
