High school golf season opens

High school golf season got underway this week, even before students returned to classes.

On Monday, Austin’s Logue brothers were among the top linksters in a three-school match at Smethport. Kal Logue carded a 42 and Kade Logue a 43, trailing only the Hubbers’ Tyler Woodard on his home course. Rounding out Austin’s scorers were Xavier Furman, Michael Shaffer and Michael Valenti.

In team scoring, Smethport edged Austin 31-24 while Kane topped Smethport, 35-20.

On the same course, Smethport’s girls scored a 31-24 win over Coudersport Monday. Leading the Falcons were Victoria Robinson (62), Brittany Hunt (62) and Sarah Minor (63). Sara Buccholz and Becca Pelchy also placed for the visitors,.

On Tuesday, Kade Logue (36) shot the medal round as Austin defeated Port Allegany on the Emporium course, 37-18.

At the same time, Cameron County took care of Port Allegany, 40-15, behind Paul Etchepare (40), Tyler Wigfi eld (40), Andrew Grimone (50), Keith Spelhaski (50) and Taylor Gillette (51).

On Wednesday, Etchepare fired a one-under round of 35, but host Oswayo Valley defeated the Red Raiders (2-1) on the Bolivar, N.Y. course.
