Prison sentence for child rapist

A 20-year-old Coudersport man has been sentenced to 20 to 40 in the state prison system for raping a 10-year-old girl.

Judge Stephen Minor announced sentence last week on Matthew A. Lawton, formerly of Long Road in Coudersport, who was convicted of multiple felony counts of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and aggravated indecent assault.

Lawton was also assessed $2,500 in fifines and $3,721 in court costs and restitution. He will be credited for the more than two years he has already spent in jail while the case was pending.

On July 5, 2010, Lawton raped a girl from Albion, N.Y., who was a visitor in his home. The victim’s parents had gone on a bike ride when the incidents occurred. Police said the girl’s eight-year-old brother witnessed some of the acts.
