Falcons eke out boys’ golf crown

There was little margin for error in a special playoff held Tuesday to decide the North Penn Woods Boys Golf League title.

Playing on the neutral ground of Smethport, Coudersport emerged with a 29-26 win over Oswayo Valley, due in large part to a clutch performance by the Falcons’ lone senior, Jason Bertrand.

J. T. Maynard shot a team-best 43 while Bertrand and Cameron Kockler were just one stroke back. Logan Marshall (50) and Kent Wilkinson (52) rounded out the Falcon scorers.

“This was a good match from top to bottom,” said Coudersport coach John Sherry. “Our middle guys played well and it was great to bring the league title back to our school.”

While the team play is over, Kockler has qualifi ed for the championship round of the District 9 Class AA Tournament Saturday (today) in St. Marys.
