Merle D. Winston

Merle D. Winston, 77, of Port Allegany, died Sept. 29, 2013, in Select Specialty Hospital, Erie.

A native of Morris, he was a son of Milton and Neva I. (Whitney) Winston. In 1953, in Grampian, he married Mona A. Hepfer. Mr. Winston had managed Olson-Tenglund Auto Parts of Coudersport for many years, retiring in 2005. Friends will be received from 11 to 2 on Saturday (today) at Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a memorial service will follow.

Joseph F. Burfield

Joseph F. Burfield, 57, Bardstown, Ky., formerly of Emporium, died Sept. 25, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Miami, Fla. He was born in DuBois, a son of James and Jean (Schreffler) Burfield. In 1976, in Emporium, he married Cindy Graham. Mr. Burfield graduated from Cameron County High School and from Triangle Tech in Falls Creek. He moved to Kentucky in 2001 and worked as a safety engineer. Survivors include his mother; his wife; two sons, Cory Burfield of Bardstown and Shane C. Burfield of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Erin (Mrs. Reuben) Solveson of Emporium; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Carol Olay of Emporium, Lona (Mrs. David) Klase of Duncannon and Stacey Burfield of Corfu, N.Y.; and two brothers, James Burfield Jr. of Emporium and Jeffrey Burfield of Dover. Barnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Castle Garden Cemetery, Driftwood.

Dorothy J. Pifer

Dorothy J. Pifer, 91, of Clearfield, died Sept. 24, 2013, at Clearfield Hospital. She was born in Clearfield, the daughter of Amon W. and Myrtle (Green) Pifer. She had owned a taxi business in Emporium. Bennett and Houser Funeral Home of Clearfield was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Mt. Joy Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Joy United Methodist Church in Clearfield.

Audrey M. Huss

Audrey M. Huss, 88, of Turtlepoint, died Sept. 27, 2013, in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. A native of Clearfield, she and her husband, Robert D. Huss, operated a family farm in Turtlepoint for many years. She was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Marines, and worked for Standard Oil Company in Ohio. Among survivors are a son, Kenneth R. Huss of Turtlepoint; three daughters, Sharon A. Huss, Rebecca S. Neaus and Rhonda M. (Mrs. Ray) Butler; five grandsons, four granddaughters; and a brother, Duane W. Gross. Switzer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Annin Creek Cemetery, Turtlepoint. Memorials can be made to the S.W. Smith Library or Port Area Ambulance Service.

Ella M. Jordan

Ella M. Jordan, 64, of Genesee, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. Funeral Services are being held today (Saturday, Oct. 5) at 11 am. at Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses.
