Free programs at Elk Visitor Center

Another round of public programs concludes this weekend at the Elk Country Visitor Center in Benezette, Elk County. There is no charge.

This weekend, a unique program on shade-grown coffee, with samples, will be held on Satruday at 3. A program on elk antlers is scheduled for Sunday at 1.

A conservation education organization, Cold-Blooded Curiosity, offers a hands-on nature lesson at 1 pm Saturday, Oct. 11. On Sunday, Oct. 12, the center will present a program on the elk herd through all four seasons, also scheduled for 1 pm.

“Animal Adaptations” is on tap for Oct. 18 at 1 pm, with a special focus on protective coloration and mimicry as survival tactics. On Sunday, Oct. 19, at 3 pm, a program on the history, tradition and current status of Pennsylvania’s beavers will be presented.
