Cole expands cardio services


Dr. Herrmann Dr. Herrmann Heart disease remains the number one killer of American adults. For decades, local patients have had to travel a considerable distance to access specialized care.

Cole Memorial Hospital is expanding a key part of its services through its affiliation with Erie’s UPMC Hamot Heart and Vascular Institute. Cardiology patients will now have access to advanced care options at Cole’s Coudersport campus.

Dr. Steven Herrmann, a board certified cardiology specialist, will practice part-time at Cole. He joins cardiologist Dr. Cyril Gunawardane on staff.

A physician’s assistant, Mike Wilt, has also joined the team. He has 10 years of experience and is certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine.

“Our collaboration with Hamot has allowed us to add office hours to increase access to cardiology care,” said Lori Gross, Cole’s regional health center director.

Some services will also be available at the Port Allegany Community Health Center.

Herrmann holds a doctorate in cardiovascular physiology and biophysics from the University of Washington. He is certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, adult echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Herrmann has more than 15 years of experience in cardiology and related specialties.
