Cameron County Fair kicks off Aug. 7

All of the traditional events and some new ones are planned for the Cameron County Fair, which opens for its weeklong run on Monday, Aug. 7. As always, there will be no admission charge and parking will be free.

Longtime Conservation District director Jan Hampton will be memorialized with conservation-themed events on Aug. 9, organized by Cameron County Conservation District, Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

A wide variety of entertainment is planned. The popular amateur talent show, featuring vocal performances, comedy, dancing and instrumental performances, returns. Winners from three age groups will be awarded cash prizes.

Beaver Hall will be filled with homegrown fruits and vegetables, crafts, hand-knitted clothing, sewing, and baked and canned goods.

Schedule of events is as follows:

• Sunday, Aug. 6, Vesper Services at 7 pm.

• Monday, Aug 7, Emergency Volunteer Appreciation Night; 5 pm, tractor parade and decorated bicycle contest through downtown Emporium to the fairgrounds; 6 pm, opening and dedication; 6 pm, bubble gum-blowing contest; 6:30, goodies auction; 6:30, Rock ‘N Roll Pet Store; 7-10 pm, Legacy on stage.

• Tuesday, Aug 8, Small Business Night; 5:30 pm, taste table sponsored by CCHS Music Boosters; 6 pm, Jan Hampton Memorial Zucchini Parade; 6:30 pm, Cameron County’s Got Talent Contest; 7 pm, Howard Mincone strolling entertainment; 7:30 pm, Mountain Melodies; 8:30 pm, entertainment on stage.

• Wednesday, Aug. 9, Jan Hampton Memorial Conservation Event and Military Appreciation Night; 6 pm, conservation events get underway; 7 pm, Howard Mincone strolling entertainment; 8-10 pm, entertainment on stage.

• Thursday, Aug. 10, Agriculture/ Lumber Night; 5:30, chili cook-off; 6 pm, redneck games including pie eating, milk chugging and root beer drinking contests; 6:30 pm, corn hole tournament; 7 pm, nail-driving contest; 7:30 pm, pizza-eating contest; 7-10 pm, Old Skool on stage.

• -Friday, Aug. 11, Family Night; 5:30-6, live broadcast by WJAC and special events; 6:30 pm, beautiful baby contest winner announced; 7 pm, crowning of senior king and queen, junior king and queen, prince and princes; 8 pm, basket bonanza winners announced; 7-10 pm, Karaoke with the Royal Court.

• Saturday, Aug. 12, 8:30 am, 13th annual Harvey Gribble Memorial Horseshoe Tournament.
