Problems with Galeton water system

A transmission line in Galeton’s public water system is in need of repair at a cost of as much as $20,000. A leak already caused a boil-water advisory to be issued and the situation appears to be worsening.

Councilman Rob Pflflug reported on the situation at this month’s Borough Council meeting. Work would include installing new piping, some of which would have to be run under forested property at Wetmore Run.

In another matter, Council members discussed the need for clarity with some sections of the borough’s stormwater management ordinance. In the meantime, an East Main Street resident was granted a waiver from complying with the ordinance in the installation of a driveway.

Council also agreed to consider placing trash receptacles in various locations. The practice has been discontinued due to vandalism.
