Yard sale mania at county seat

A Labor Day weekend tradition that attracts hundreds of people kicks off Saturday morning in and around Coudersport.

Official starting time of the Townwide Yard Sale is 9 am, but many sellers welcome “early bird” bargain-hunters who want to get a jump on their competition combing through merchandise scattered across lawns, porches, or garages on virtually every street.

How popular is the event? Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors it, has even arranged for sellers to set up sale tables at the courthouse square. The organization has also leased portable toilets and a wash station positioned at the square for shoppers who need to take care of business so they can get right back to the frenzy.

Most, but not all, of the sales are registered with the Chamber, which means their locations are listed on maps that are available at local businesses and the Chamber of Commerce office at the corner of North Main and Third streets.

Shoppers can also tap the chart of sale locations online through a Google My Map image, available at coudersport.us/townwide.

There’s also a multi-vendor yard sale set up on Saturday near the entrance of the Pa. Lumber Museum, along Rt. 6 across from Denton Hill State Park.
