Another new business has opened in the heart of downtown Coudersport, which has been taking on new life in recent years.

Now operating in the former Maple Tree Restaurant on North Main Street is Sew Much More, a true labor of love for the talented seamstress Janice Darrah. She recently relocated operations from her Rt. 44/49 site on the town’s northern outskirts.

She offers a broad selection of wedding dresses and formal attire, as well as zippers and other accessories and customized work such as alterations, fittings and repairs.

“Having a Main Street presence has enhanced foot traffic as well as making a positive impact on the bottom line,” Janice said. “People stop in and look around much more now that I have a larger store and can better display the inventory.”

Her business is adjacent to Brodhun’s Power House, sharing the former JCPenney building that sat vacant for many years.

“Much of what I do used to be taught in school and was often handed down from one generation to the next,” Janice pointed out. “It has almost become a lost skill, so it’s wonderful to teach others.”

A 1972 graduate of Coudersport Area High School, Janice has always has a passion for sewing. She refined her talents starting as a nine- year-old 4-H member. She has since taught sewing classes at the Hebron Center Christian School and her quilts have earned awards at the State Farm Show.

Regular hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9-5; Wednesdays from 9-3, Saturdays through prom season as well as by appointment. Sew Much More and be reached at 814-335-8681.
