Veteran to speak at weekend services

A Cameron County resident who served for more than two decades in the U.S. Air Force will be keynote speaker for Emporium’s Memorial Day observance.

Technical Sergeant Mary J. Greif, who relocated to Emporium from California many years ago, served in Germany and Italy. She was also stationed stateside in Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas, New York and Pennsylvania.

Cameron County Memorial Detail will lead the parade, with lineup at the Vets Club starting at 9:15. All members of past and present military services, as well as Auxiliary members of the American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars, are asked to participate.

Participants will travel Walnut and Fourth streets, where the parade will step off at 10 and progress to the Veterans Park for a short program, with invocation by Rev. Paul Siebert and performance of the National Anthem by the Cameron County High School band.

Veterans’ organizations and their auxiliaries will lay wreaths in memory of area war veterans. A remembrance ceremony will be held for those who died at sea, led by U.S. Navy Detail members Rob Aversa and Joseph Fragale.

Cameron County Memorial Detail will complete the ceremony with a rifle salute, playing of Taps and raising of the American Flag.
