Edward L. Kopp

Edward L. Kopp, 81, of Gardeau Road, died March 1, 2019, at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys. He was born in Hanover, Pa., a son of Virginia Bailey Kopp and Edward Kopp. A U.S. Navy veteran, he worked as a welder for many years. Among survivors are his mother; his companion, Delores Saltsman; and a brother, Clyde Kopp of Easton, Md. Barnett Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Robert F. Herbstritt

Robert F. Herbstritt, 81, of Emporium, died Feb. 24, 2019, after being struck by a car in Emporium. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, a son of Frances Dennis Baker. He was married to Janet Marie Young. He worked as a part manager with several area automobile dealers. Among survivors are a son, David Herbstritt of Emporium; and two brothers, Dennis Baker of Austin and Allen Baker of Emporium. Burial was in Newton Cemetery. Barnett Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Dorothy J. Maxson

Dorothy J. Maxson, 80, of Shinglehouse, died Feb. 28, 2019, in the Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital. Born at home on Kings Run Road in Ceres, she was a daughter of Clair and Charlotte Hackett Austin. In 1956, she married Edward A. Maxson, who died in 2016. Dorothy was a 1956 graduate of Shinglehouse High School. She was employed at the Olean Times Herald and at the former Manufacturers Hanover Bank in Olean. She was a charter member of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church. Among survivors are a daughter, Beverly D. Maxson of Shinglehouse; a son, Gregory A. Maxson of Shinglehouse; and three sisters, Delores Johnson, Deborah Dietze, and Donna Shreckengost, all of Shinglehouse. Burial was in Bell Run Cemetery, Shinglehouse. Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, handled arrangements.

Robert M. Garden

Robert M. Garden, 34, of Little Genesee, N.Y., died Feb. 26, 2019, from injuries sustained in a car accident. Born in Barstow, Calif., he was a son of Brian E. and Lucille G. Green of Shinglehouse. In 2010, he married Kelly L. Gilliland. Bob was a self-employed contractor. Among survivors are his wife; his parents; two children, Kenna L. Garden and Cole E. Garden; two siblings, Holly Jo Linden and Levi E. Green; his maternal grandmother, Gladys Lute Miller; his paternal grandfather, Leonard “Butch” Green; and his biological father, Michael B. Garden. Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, handled arrangements.

Faye M. Starks

Faye M. Starks, 70, of Allegany, N.Y., formerly of Shinglehouse, died March 3, 2019, in Hart Comfort House, Wellsville, N.Y. Born in Harrison Valley, she was the daughter of Mahlon and Gladys Schultz Hauber. A graduate of Northern Potter High School, she was employed by area nursing homes and worked as a private caregiver. She was married to Donald E. Starks, who died in 1978. Among survivors are seven children, three brothers and two sisters. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.

Penny L. Prokopchuk

Penny L. Prokopchuk, 58, of Wellsville, N.Y., died Feb. 28, 2019, at home. She was born in Coudersport, the daughter of Keith and Mary Jean (Stilson) Truax. A graduate of Northern Potter High School, Penny was a secretary with Wellsville Central School and operated a home-based day care service. Among survivors are three daughters and two sisters.

Edith F. Tweedie

Edith F. Tweedie, 81, of Ulysses Township, died March 2, 2019, in UPMC Cole. Born in Bryn Mawr, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Frances Cecilia Mullen Leflar. In 1956, she married William D. Tweedie. Edie owned and operated a restaurant for many years. Among survivors are her husband, and three siblings. Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses, handled arrangements.
